چکیده

This study presents different technologies and topologies of medium-voltage (MV) drives available on the market. The paper describes the advantages and disadvantages of each configuration and the impact in the quality of energy in the mains and motor sides when using them is also analyzed. Technical requirements and practical considerations for end users and system designers are identified for a proper selection in this field. In addition, results of experimental tests are presented using a Neutral Point Clamped High Voltage IGBTs (NPC-HV-IGBTs) on a Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) operating in three different control modes: Volts/Hertz, Closed Loop Vector Sensorless and Closed Loop Vector with encoder. These results are shown with the intention of analyzing the performance of this topology.

Making the Choice between Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Drives Variable Frequency Drives

Historically, the task for low voltage users has been relatively straightforward; choose one supplier from many in the market, based on a number of criteria including price, reliability, functionality, and communications. However, for a drive control solution for larger industrial loads, the situation is not so clear-cut. Until quite recently, most engineers faced with a highpower application w...

PWM Algorithms for Multilevel Inverter Supplied Multiphase Variable-Speed Drives

Multiphase variable speed drives are nowadays regarded as serious contenders for various applications, due to the certain advantages that they possess when compared to threephase drives. On the other hand, the multilevel (predominantly three-level) voltage source inverter (VSI) has become an industrially accepted technology for medium-voltage three-phase drives. The logical next step is to inte...

A %THD analysis of industrial power distribution systems with active power filter-case studies

Increasing use of variable speed drives in industry causes harmonic proliferation in industrial power distribution supply system. Harmonic currents generated by the variable speed drives interact with power system impedance to give rise to harmonic voltage distortion. Thus it is essential to analyze, evaluate and introduce appropriate mitigation techniques for harmonic reduction in the power sy...
